Hubbard man stunned in confrontation with Trumbull deputy

Staff report

HUBBARD

Robert T. Cook, 64, of 6101 Hoss Street in Hubbard Township, was charged with resisting arrest and aggravated menacing after a confrontation with a Trumbull County deputy sheriff Thursday.

Deputy William Kata had gone to Cook’s house to retrieve vehicle-identification numbers as earlier agreed, but Cook ordered the deputy to leave.

Cook disappeared for a little while, but when he returned, he said the deputy had to leave if he didn’t have a search warrant, according to a sheriff’s report.

Cook then threatened to shoot the deputy with a gun he kept in a shed and started to walk toward the shed. When the deputy ordered Cook to stop walking, Cook turned and threw coffee on the deputy.

Cook continued to walk, so the deputy deployed his stun gun on Cook and took him into custody.

Cook appeared in Girard Municipal Court on the charges Friday and was ordered held in the Trumbull County Jail without eligibility to make bond.
