Women escape fire
YOUNGSTOWN
A woman was treated for an anxiety attack after a fire at her 69 E. Philadelphia Ave. home on the South Side that started about 9:40 a.m. Tuesday.
Crews arrived to find flames coming from a second-floor window, reports said. Reports said the fire started on a mattress on the second floor and spread throughout the upper floors of the home.
A woman in a first-floor bedroom was helped out of the house by a neighbor. The woman treated for the anxiety attack was on the second floor and got out safely as well.
Damage is listed at $20,500. There were no injuries.
Police leadership

Lt. Daniel Mason of the Warren Police Department and Sgt. Scott Bennett of the Canfield Police Department have both completed the three-week Police Executive Leadership College training course.
Topics focus on skills required to effect personal and organizational long-term change. Emphasis is given to the practical application of leadership concepts.
New indoor arena
SOUTHINGTON
The Camelot Center, 3498 Barclay Messerly Road, which operates a therapeutic horse riding program, will break ground on a new indoor riding arena at 6 p.m. July 13.
The structure, to be more than 7,600 square feet, will provide year-round shelter for program participants.
On the same day, the center will have its Christmas at Camelot fundraiser, featuring live music, food, live auction and silent auction. Tickets are $40 per couple, $25 per person.
The nonprofit Camelot Center provides riding to physically, mentally or emotionally disabled, learning disabled, minority and/or disadvantaged children and adults.
Medical open house
CHAMPION
The Trumbull Career and Technical Center Adult Training Center will host a medical programs open house from noon to 7 p.m. today. Attendees will tour the center and meet with current students, instructors and coordinators associated with medical programs.
There will be an opportunity to ask questions about financial aid, program entrance requirements, national certification upon course completion and other topics of interest to adults considering career/technical training for licensed practical nurse, medical assisting, pharmacy technician, medical administrative specialist, phlebotomist, medical coder, nurse aide and other medical-related courses.
Beaver Twp. fire grant
NORTH LIMA
Beaver Township Fire Department will receive $22,843 for operations and safety upgrades from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency Assistance to Firefighters Grants program.
“Our first responders put their lives on the line every day across Ohio,” said U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, a Democrat, who announced the grant Wednesday. “These funds ensure that firefighters in North Lima have the resources they need to perform their jobs safely.”
Land-buy incentive
WARREN
The nonprofit Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership has launched an incentive program for those who purchase a piece of property through the Trumbull County Land Bank.
Huntington Bank is providing $10,000 to allow TNP to provide $500 Lowe’s gift cards to purchasers of the vacant properties. The cards can be used to buy tools, materials and supplies to make improvements to the lot.
Lowe’s also has agreed to provide a 10 percent discount on items purchased with the cards. Applications are available at www.tnpwarren.org, or by calling 330-599-9275.
Kids programs
HOWLAND
The Howland Township Summer Youth Sport and Recreation Program will have a FunTastic Sports and Games program and a scrapbooking program from 9 a.m. to noon Monday to June 21.
Both are for children ages 6 to 13 and cost $20 for Howland residents, $35 for non-residents.
The sports and games program will be in Howland Township Park and requires athletic shoes and athletic attire.
The scrapbooking program will be in Howland Middle School and requires the participant to bring a photo album, art box with glue, scissors and coloring supplies.

Firefighter training
BOARDMAN
The township received a $20,250 grant from the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio.
The money will be used by the fire department and will provide training courses on alternative-fuel vehicles, hazardous materials and confined space rescue.
This grant was one of eight, totaling $117,400, that PUCO approved for state and local government agencies throughout Ohio.
