POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman:

POLAND

June 2

Breaking and entering: Someone forcibly entered a residence in the 6700 block of Center Road through a side window before stealing a $2,300 tractor.

Breaking and entering: A home in the 2200 block of Clyde Street was broken into via a rear door, though it appeared nothing was taken.

June 4

Theft: A Beechwood Drive man reported two credit cards and a debit card stolen, as well as $249 worth of fraudulent charges to one of the cards.

June 7

Assault: A North Lima woman suffered a minor injury after reporting having been assaulted in the 5100 block of Struthers Road.

June 8

Drugs: A traffic stop near Mathews Road and state Route 170 resulted in 21-year-old Cameron J. Short’s arrest. Short, of 713 Cheriwood Court, Boardman, was wanted on a felony marijuana-possession charge from Ashtabula County.

June 10

Arrest: Police charged a 14-year-old township boy with being an unruly juvenile and obstructing official business before the boy was released to the custody of a parent.

Weapon: Officers received information that a firearm had been discharged in a prohibited area near Stewart Road.

Fraud: A Poland man reported his wallet stolen while on Dobbins Road, then learned a credit card was used to make $200 worth of unauthorized activity.

BOARDMAN

June 6

Domestic violence: Steven J. Zawrotuk, 45, of 1727 Daffodil Trail, Poland, was booked after his wife alleged Zawrotuk had forcibly kissed her during an argument and, when she refused, pushed her to the ground, causing soreness to the accuser’s neck and injuries to her left elbow.

Theft: Five articles of clothing were stolen from Family Dollar, 4028 South Ave.

Criminal damaging: A guest broke a toilet-bowl cover in a room at a Market Street motel.

Theft: A Youngstown boy, 16, was charged with stealing five T-shirts from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Criminal damaging: A garden hose was damaged at a residence in the 5800 block of Tippecanoe Road.

Theft: A woman discovered $500 missing from her Green Bay Drive home.

Assault: A worker for a Marwood Circle business alleged a co-worker had struck her face.

Theft: A woman stole miscellaneous clothing from Old Navy Clothing Store, 377 Boardman-Poland Road.

Employee theft: The owner of Bruno’s Restaurant & Catering, 1984 Boardman-Poland Road, alleged a worker has made duplicate deposits of his paychecks over a few months, resulting in $896 worth of fraudulent deposits.

Drugs: A traffic stop near Erskine Avenue resulted in a felony charge of trafficking in drugs against William J. Ritchey III, 20, of 2401 Russell Ave., Youngstown, when, police said, he had a bag with six individual bags of suspected marijuana. Also, officers issued a minor-misdemeanor citation charging 19-year-old Brian D. Brown, 4009 S. Schenley Ave., Youngstown, with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Theft: A woman reported her purse stolen while at a Market Street hair salon.

Criminal damaging: A car in the 4400 block of South Avenue was found with a broken driver’s-side taillight.

Theft: A 15-year-old boy reported the theft of his $200 iPod device while in the 7700 block of Glenwood Avenue.

Breaking and entering: A break-in occurred in the 5000 block of Southern Boulevard, where a man was seen fleeing in a light-gray vehicle at high speed.

Theft: Three women stole 80 articles of clothing from Burlington Coat Factory, 529 Boardman-Canfield Road, costing the business about $1,400.

June 7

Drugs: Police investigated a suspicious person in the 7000 block of Market Street before charging 33-year-old Eddie C. Pierce, 108 Jean St., Campbell, with one felony heroin-possession count. Pierce, who also was wanted on two Youngstown bench warrants, had a bag containing seven bindles of a powder that tested positive for heroin, a report showed.

Theft: Jeffrey J. Bradian Jr., 38, of 148 Melbourne Ave., Boardman, was taken into custody on U.S. Route 224. He was accused of failing to appear in court on a theft charge.

Vehicle theft: A 2004 Suzuki motorcycle was stolen in the 6800 block of Lockwood Boulevard.

Attempted fraud/harassment: An elderly Chester Drive man told police someone, possibly from Jamaica, has been calling claiming the accuser won $300 million and a Mercedes vehicle but needed to first send $500 to receive the prizes.

Theft: A $200 lawn mower was stolen from Architectural Ceramic Products LLC, 631 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Breaking and entering: Copper piping was removed from the basement of a home someone had entered in the 100 block of Newport Drive.

Employee theft: Authorities booked 24-year-old Takeya A. Hudson, 159 Gladstone St., Campbell, on a felony theft charge after a manager with Office Max, 427 Boardman-Poland Road, alleged Hudson had made a few months’ worth of fraudulent returns and pocketed about $2,152.

Aggravated menacing: A worker with Dollar General, 859 E. Midlothian Blvd., told officers an irate man tried to enter after the store had closed, then threatened to shoot her before leaving in a maroon Aztec vehicle.

Theft: Two men and two women in their late teens or early 20s reportedly stole a $200 Nintendo system from Game Stop, 813 Boardman-Poland Road.

Criminal damaging: A key was used to damage a car’s paint during a graduation party at a residence in the 800 block of Park Harbour Drive.

Aggravated menacing: A woman in the 7500 block of Market Street told officers a neighbor threatened to shoot her.

June 8

Arrests: A vehicle check near South Avenue resulted in the arrests of Jessica M. Varga, 23, of 2733 Newborn Circle, Youngstown, and John G. Stockslager, 27, same address. Both were wanted on probation-violation warrants from Campbell.

Theft: A woman noticed a $200 iPhone missing from her locker at a McClurg Road business.

Attempted theft: A manager with Giant Eagle, 1201 Doral Drive, told police a suspicious man age 25 to 30 asked for access to one of the store’s vending machines before the manager phoned another area Giant Eagle and learned the man apparently had removed money from one of its machines. In addition, officers received a similar complaint at the other township Giant Eagle, 476 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Theft: A man and a woman stole four DVDs from Walmart.

Arrest: Police on Market Street pulled over and charged 22-year-old Frank T. Davanzo with one misdemeanor count each of possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia, as well as carrying a concealed weapon after saying Davanzo, of 121 Ohltown Road, Austintown, had a needle with suspected heroin residue and a small knife.

Identity fraud: A Stratmore Avenue man discovered 17 unauthorized online transactions to his bank account totaling $1,883.

Theft: A man reported $150 and cologne missing from his Carter Circle apartment.

Harassment: A South Avenue woman said she received a threatening text message.

Theft: A North Jackson woman reported her $300 cellphone stolen while at a Tippwood Court residence.

Arrest: A traffic stop on Market Street resulted in 62-year-old Georgette D. Smith’s arrest. Smith, of 58 Shields Road, Boardman, was accused of failure to appear in court.

Trespassing: Randolph S. Phillips of 407 Rockdale Ave., Boardman, faced a criminal-trespassing charge after the 26-year-old man was accused of being at Giant Eagle, 476 Boardman-Canfield Road, despite his having been issued a warning to stay out of the store.

Arrest: Police at a Market Street motel picked up 30-year-old Ebony D. Wilson, 1515 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, on a bench warrant charging failure to appear in court.

June 9

Domestic violence: Alvin S. Katz, 52, and James N. Katz, 24, both of 7505 Jaguar Drive, Boardman, were charged with the crime. Alvin Katz alleged that during an argument, his son had head-butted him and threatened to cut his throat as he slept; the younger Katz alleged his father had punched his face and tossed him around several times. Both had similar injuries, police said.

Menacing: A Terrace Drive woman said a man threatened to beat her up.

Arrest: A 17-year-old Boardman boy was taken into custody in North Lima on a misdemeanor charge of fleeing and eluding police after authorities said he fled on a motorcycle and led them on a pursuit as they tried to pull him over on U.S. Route 224.

Theft: Police charged 55-year-old Robert E. McQuillan, no address listed, with theft and disorderly conduct while intoxicated after authorities said they found McQuillan passed out in the 600 block of Cook Avenue. He also was accused of having stolen beer from Anzevino’s Sparkle Market, 6315 Market St.

June 10

Arrests: Authorities responded to a suspicious vehicle at a vacant Hopkins Road residence before charging Victoria K. Limbeck, 20, of 4009 S. Schenley Ave., Boardman, and Matthew M. May Jr., 24, of 4673 Barrington Drive, Austintown, with obstructing official business after saying each provided a false name for Limbeck. Also, several juveniles were cited on charges of violating curfew and underage possession of tobacco.

Robbery: A Lowellville man told authorities that while in the Huntington Bank drive-through, 5754 Youngstown-Poland Road, a gunman in black clothing demanded the victim place his bank card in the automated-teller machine. The man pretended to comply, drove away at high speed and called 911, a report showed.
