OSHP cites teen in accident that injures pedestrian
Staff report
BOARDMAN
The Ohio State Highway Patrol cited a teenager for his role in an accident in which a pedestrian was struck and sent to the hospital Tuesday.
According to a patrol release, Branon Williams, 17, of Boardman, struck Thomas Gent, 66, of Boardman, with a compact car Williams was driving while making a left turn onto Indianola Road from Market Street.
Gent was crossing Indianola traveling north, according to a media release. The patrol received the call from Boardman police at 8:36 a.m.
After further investigation, OSHP cited Williams for failing to yield the right of way to a pedestrian.
“The vehicle had struck the pedestrian in the process of making its turn,” said Trooper Timothy Dobbins.
Gent was in the crosswalk when he was crossing the road, Dobbins said.
The victim didn’t have any identification on him at the time of the accident, and was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, Dobbins said. The patrol later learned the victim was Gent.
Gent’s injuries are not life threatening, he added. Tina Creighton, media- relations specialist, said Gent was listed in satisfactory condition as of late Tuesday afternoon.
Williams tried avoiding the pedestrian and struck a bush outside the Family Video business on Market.
