Niles pair cited for obstruction after foot pursuit
NILES — A 23-year-old Bonnie Brae Avenue man and a juvenile were cited for obstructing justice after a foot pursuit early Sunday morning.
Police were called to Sunny Estates Drive about 2:10 a.m. Sunday for a report of a prowler and an officer saw a male in between a pair of houses, reports said. When the officer told the person to stop, he ran through a group of people on the patio of a house on the corner of Spruce Street and Roosevelt Avenue and ran inside, carrying a bag.
Reports said the people on the patio told police they saw no one run through them into the house and one of them, Theodore Sloban 23, the brother-in-law of the homeowner, said no one entered the house and moved in front of officers to block their view of the house, reports said.
Police called the homeowner, whom Sloban was house-sitting for, and got consent to search the home. Sloban went in with them and the male in the red shirt, who police said is a juvenile, was found hiding inside a closet.
Both were arrested for obstructing official business. The bag was full of microwaveable snacks, reports said.
