Local bakery has fundraiser for slain Salem woman's daughter

BOARDMAN — A local bakery will host a benefit Thursday at its Boardman location on South Avenue for the 4-year-old daughter, Lydia, and family of slain Salem woman Samantha A. Shasteen.

Ellen Harvischak, owner of Clarencedale Cake, where Shasteen worked, said it was something that had to be done for someone who was near and dear to her.

“We need to do something,” Harvischak said. “We wanted to do it while it was still fresh in [people’s] minds.”

Anyone who comes to the bakery on South Avenue during its usual business hours, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and buys anything out of the bakery will be donating to the fund. Harvischak said 100 percent of the proceeds will be given to the family and Lydia.
