City man gets 6-year prison term for Internet cafe robbery
YOUNGSTOWN — A man who pleaded guilty to robbing the Golden Nugget Internet Cafe, 859 E. Midlothian Blvd., of $1,211 at gunpoint April 4, has been sentenced to six years in prison.
Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court imposed the sentence today on Michael L. Herns, 22, of Sunshine Avenue.
After a cafe employee and the fleeing Herns exchanged gunfire, police arrested Herns within minutes in the laundry room of a nearby apartment complex, where they found a handgun in a dresser drawer and the money and cafe receipts in a dryer, said Jeffrey Davis, an assistant county prosecutor. Herns had no prior criminal record.
His sentence consists of three years for the aggravated robbery and three consecutive years for the gun specification.
