8 will receive JCL scholarships

Eight local high school students will receive scholarships from the Junior Civic League at its annual scholarship luncheon, planned for 2 p.m. June 23 at Antone’s Banquet Center.
Dr. Gerald L. Curd will be the guest speaker. A graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School, Curd received a bachelor’s degree from Xavier University. He earned his doctor of medicine degree from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and is an obstetrician/gynecologist.
Since it began, the JCL has awarded more than $510,000 in scholarships to students selected on the basis of academic achievement, financial need, community involvement and personal qualities and strengths.
This year, Cinderella Ball scholarships will go to Brittany A. Williams, Miss Cinderella, of Campbell Memorial High School, $2,500; Jade Colyar, first attendant, of Liberty High, $1,800; and Donielle Lisbon, second attendant, of Struthers High, $1,500.
Five others will receive $1,500 scholarships for the 2013-2014 academic year: Jordyn Austin of Howland High; Alicia Clark-Williams and Rachel Davis of Austintown Fitch High; Kayla Cousart of Hubbard High; and Kierra Winford of Cardinal Mooney High.
