The Home Savings and Loan Co. recently opened a new mortgage loan office in Cranberry Township, Pa. The official ribbon-cutting and grand-opening event takes place at the offices located at 20120 state Route 19, Suite 209 in Cranberry, at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Updating village’s water infrastructure

A Trumbull County community will receive new resources to boost economic development and job creation by updating its water infrastructure.
U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Avon, announced that the Appalachian Regional Commission awarded a $237,000 grant to the Village of West Farmington to construct a new sanitary-sewer system.
The new system will consist of 24,937 linear feet of sewer line and will result in new sewer connections for the village. The project will provide the new sewer service to 179 households, eight businesses, a community center and the village hall.
Port authority awarded grant

The Western Reserve Port Authority was awarded a $600,000 Brownfield Assessment Grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Rose Ann DeLeon, executive director of the WRPA, received notice of the award.
The WRPA formed the Trumbull Brownfield Coalition, which includes the Trumbull County Planning Commission, the city of Warren, Howland Township and the Mahoning River Corridor Initiative in order to address the growing challenges of abandoned industrial sites in Trumbull County. The grant was one of only four awarded in Ohio by the EPA this year.
Cash rebates for Ohio employers

The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation will distribute $1 billion in cash rebates to Ohio employers, many of whom can also plan for additional savings through decreasing overall base rates.
In a separate action, the board signed off on a 2.1 percent average reduction in base rates for private employers that brings their three-year premium savings to an estimated $224 million.
