Emergency radio demonstrations set
YOUNGSTOWN
Radio operators from the Mahoning Valley Amateur Radio Association, in cooperation with Mill Creek MetroParks, will demonstrate how they respond in times of emergencies from noon June 22 through 2 p.m. June 23.
Several stations will be set up and operated for 24 hours throughout the MetroParks Farm, across from Canfield Fairgrounds. The exercise is an annual event in the United States and Canada put together by the American Radio Relay League.
The event will also allow the public to see how quickly amateur radio can provide emergency communications when it’s needed.
Computer systems, antennas and power distributions are assembled to connect with thousands of other stations across the country without using domestic power and support. Morse Code and other methods of digital transmission systems will be used by the stations, and ARRL predicts that more than 35,000 radio hosts participate each year.
