Juneteenth program to celebrate Freedom Day


YOUNGSTOWN

The East Committee of the Friends of the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County will have a Juneteenth Program at 1 p.m. June 15 in the East Library, 430 Early Road.

The State of Ohio recognizes this day as National Freedom Day to acknowledge the freedom, history and culture of June 19, 1865, the day slaves in the United States were set free in Texas.

The committee plans a program that focuses on the Emancipation Proclamation.

There will be a craft, entertainment and refreshments.

The program is free and open to the public.
