First-grade students in Mrs. Zamary’s class donated $150 to Akron Childrens Hospital on May 28 at Union Elementary.
The students raised money throughout the year by bringing in loose pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. Then, on May 28, the class presented Allison Engstrom, development assistant for Akron Children’s Hospital, with a check for the hospital.
The money raised will allow Akron Childrens Hospital to purchase hats, scarves, gloves and shoes for children in need.
“They were very specific about where they wanted the money to go,” said Engstrom.
Zamary commended her students for the money they raised.
“This is the most wonderful class I’ve had. They are such caring and giving children,” said Zamary.
Engstrom echoed Zamary’s sentiments.
“The generosity of these children, giving to others at such a young age is awesome,” said Engstrom.
