A man charged with killing a woman at an Oak Street home early Wednesday morning is in the Columbiana County Jail on $1 million bond.
Mason Feisel, 34, of Afton Avenue, Boardman, is due back in court for a preliminary hearing June 17 after his arraignment Thursday in Columbiana County Municipal Court.
Police charged Feisel with the death of Samantha A. Shasteen, 32. She was found dead inside the home about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. Police have not said how Shasteen died and did not return a message Thursday seeking comment.
Police were called to Feisel’s home just after noon Wednesday for a report of a burglary, a Boardman police report said.
A man told police he dropped by Feisel’s home about 10 a.m. Wednesday to pick up a lawn mower, and a friend told him Feisel had not shown up for his job.
The lock on the back door of the home had been damaged as if someone was trying to break in, but nothing in the home appeared to be disturbed, the report said.
Boardman police then responded and secured the home for Salem detectives while they awaited a search warrant, the report said.
When police responded to Shasteen’s home, her father said he saw a man in the garage who then ran away. Officers found Feisel lying behind a tree in a nearby yard, and it appeared he had several self-inflicted wounds.
He refused commands to stand up but eventually was taken into custody. He was treated for his injuries at Salem Community Hospital before being transferred to the jail.
