Guilty plea in homicide of elderly man

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A man has pleaded guilty to killing his elderly neighbor taking money from his apartment to go on a drug binge.

The Daily Local News reports 40-year-old Jorge Davila of West Chester pleaded guilty Thursday to first-degree murder and robbery charges and was sentenced to a mandatory term of life in prison.

In addition to life in prison, Davila will serve a concurrent five to 10 years in prison for the robbery charge. People convicted of first-degree murder in Pennsylvania cannot be paroled, only pardoned.

Davila admitted killing 86-year-old Augusto “Wito” Rivera in July 2011 a day or so after borrowing $400 from him.

Investigators said Davila returned for more money but the victim did not want to give him any more. Rivera was later found strangled and suffocated.
