The Victorian Players will wrap up its season with the classic N. Richard Nash romantic comedy “The Rainmaker,” which opens Friday for a three-weekend run.
“The Rainmaker” is set in a rural town in the West during the 1950s, in the midst of a drought. Spinster-ish Lizzie Curry has just returned home to resume her duties of keeping house for her father and brothers. She had been away hoping to find a husband, but the trip did not yield the desired results, and now Lizzie’s family is more concerned about her marriage prospects than their dying cattle.
Starbuck, a fast-talking huckster arrives on the scene and claims that he can make it rain in exchange for $100. Although skeptical at first, the family buys his services.
Meanwhile, Starbuck befriends Lizzie and makes her feel more beautiful and alive than she ever thought possible.
Donnette Bishop and Joe Pascarella star in “The Rainmaker.” Bishop most recently was seen in the Rust Belt Theater Company production of “Family Reunion,” and Pascarella last appeared at the Youngstown Playhouse in “Death of a Salesman.”
Others in the cast are Bill Finley, Cory Fowler, Hunter Thomas, David Cirrelli and Christopher Haddock
