Texas company buys former Miller-Holzwarth property in Salem
Texas-based Optex Systems Inc., which manufactures and designs precision sighting equipment for a variety of military vehicles, placed the winning bid for the former Miller-Holzwarth property in Salem at an auction today.
Optex bid $750,000 for the property at West Pershing Street that closed unexpectedly last July and left 80 workers unemployed.
A company official with Optex, who attended the auction, which was held at the Medina County Common Pleas Court, declined to comment on what the company has in store for the property.
Officials close to the sale proceedings, which were initiated last August when a Medina County judge accepted a request from one of Miller-Holzwarth’s debtors to sell off the company’s assets, have said a number of companies were interested in the property, where Miller-Holzwarth once produced equipment for military combat vehicles.
Among those interested were liquidators and others who said they were committed to reopening the factory and keeping it in Salem.
In all, nine bids from various companies were placed at Thursday’s auction.
