Studio to comb NM landfill for bad Atari games
ALAMOGORDO, N.M.
A New Mexico city commission has agreed to allow a Canadian studio to search an old landfill where old, terrible Atari games are rumored to be buried.
The Alamogordo Daily News reports that Alamogordo commissioners will allow Fuel Industries to search the landfill for games. It has offices in Ontario, Canada, and Los Angeles.
One sought game, the “E.T.” video game, is thought by some gamers to be one of the worst video games of all time.
Atari paid Steven Spielberg tens of millions of dollars to license the “E.T.” name, and the dud of a game caused the troubled company’s worth to sink even further at the time.
Alamogordo Commissioner Jason Baldwin says he played the “E.T.” game, and it was horrible.
‘Bucket list’ item leads to women’s arrest in Florida
OCALA, Fla.
Two longtime friends ended up in jail in central Florida thanks to a “bucket list” that included stealing from a store.
Police say 36-year-old Andrea Mobley and 38-year-old Jennifer Morrow face petty- theft charges after stealing bathing suits and beef jerky during a trip to Walmart last Wednesday.
A loss-prevention officer told police Mobley was eating beef jerky in the store, and Morrow concealed items inside her purse. They were detained after taking the items from the store without paying.
The Ocala Star-Banner reports the women told police they hadn’t seen each other in years, and stealing from a retail store was on the “bucket list.”
Mobley told the newspaper they were just “two stupid women” doing something they’d never done before. She added she’s ashamed.
California man suspected of painting crosswalk
VALLEJO, Calif.
A Northern California man is facing vandalism charges after authorities say he painted a crosswalk on a street, reportedly telling officials it was needed.
Anthony Cardenas, 52, was arrested Thursday morning in Vallejo and booked into Solano County Jail on suspicion of felony vandalism. Solano County Sheriff’s Lt. Brad DeWall says workers spotted Cardenas committing the vandalism at a city intersection.
The intersection already has three crosswalks.
DeWall says Cardenas also painted lines through those.
State transportation workers painted over Cardenas’ purported crosswalk later in the day. A police cadet had been posted at the intersection until then to keep pedestrians from using it.
