YOUNGSTOWN

After his lawyer posted $10,500 bond for him, Jay Dana, a retired Boardman Center Middle School English teacher, plans to live in Grand Blanc, Mich., as he awaits further court action on three counts of rape, which name three women as alleged victims.

Dana, 56, formerly of Columbiana, who most recently lived in Fort Myers, Fla., appeared for arraignment on those charges Tuesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Dana had sexual contact with three women he dated while they were “substantially impaired, either by alcohol or some type of substance that caused them to be either unaware of it or they couldn’t stop it,” said Rebecca Doherty, chief of the criminal division of the county prosecutor’s office.

The alleged offenses occurred during July and September 2006 and May 2011, according to the grand jury indictment issued May 23.

Judge Maureen A. Sweeney ordered Dana to have no contact with the alleged victims and not to be within 1,000 feet of any alleged victim, victim’s residence or victim’s family member.

Dana, who faces three to 10 years in prison on each count if he’s convicted, is represented by Atty. J. Gerald Ingram.
