Diagnosed with cancer, singer cancels album

NEW YORK

Soul singer Sharon Jones has cancer and has canceled plans for an album and tour in 2013.

A Monday news release says Jones has stage-one bile duct cancer and needs immediate surgery.

Jones and her band the Dap-Kings had planned to release “Give the People What They Want” on Aug. 6 and were already touring. The singer was forced to miss a few shows recently while looking for a cause of her illness.

The release says that doctors caught the tumor early and that the cancer has not spread. They expect the 57-year-old to make a full recovery.

A day at Disneyland now more than $90

ANAHEIM, Calif.

When you wish upon a star, be sure to bring your wallet. Disneyland has raised its ticket prices.

Disney said in a statement that now a one-day adult ticket to one park will cost $92, a $5 increase. Kids’ tickets also jumped $5, to $87.

The prices apply to either Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure Park. Buyers of annual passes will see similar increases.

The Disneyland statement says the increases were brought on by a variety of factors, but the tickets represent a great value given the breadth and quality of attractions and entertainment its parks offer.

Prices also changed at Walt Disney World in Florida.

Prince Charles buys Romanian property

BUCHAREST, Romania

An official says Britain’s Prince Charles has bought a fourth property in Romania while on a visit.

President Traian Basescu joked that the prince is so enamored of the country’s Transylvania region that he will soon own a whole village. Basescu met Charles on Monday in Bucharest.

Charles has a well- documented love for Transylvania, which he visits yearly and where he owns properties. He says he is a descendant of Vlad the Impaler, the bloodthirsty 15th-century prince who inspired the Dracula novel.

Charles arrived in Romania on Thursday and stayed on his estate in Valea Zalanului. Mayor Jozsef Kasleder said Monday that Charles bought a new cottage there.
