Facing arson charge
YOUNGSTOWN
Police say a woman tried to burn down a vacant South Side home Sunday afternoon.
Officers were called to the 600 block of West LaClede Avenue for a report of a woman pouring gasoline around the home and found a pile of burning sticks and papers in the driveway. They were met by Patricia Crockett, 50, of Glenwood Avenue, who told them she lived there and had set the fire because she was trying to clean up, reports said.
Police reports said officers knew the house was vacant and it also had visible damage from previous fires. The woman who called police told officers she asked Crockett what she was doing, and Crockett in turn asked if the woman knew how to start a fire, reports said.
The fire department was called, and reports said they found four areas inside the home where an accelerant that can be used to start fires was poured. Crockett was arrested on a charge of arson.
