Kokrak just misses qualifying for the U.S. Open
Warren JFK graduate Jason Kokrak just missed qualifying for the U.S. Open on Monday, getting eliminated after three playoff holes of a qualifying tournament in Columbus.
Kokrak was 8 under after 36 holes — tied for ninth — and was one of 11 golfers in the playoff trying for the final seven spots in next week's Open.
Kokrak made par on the first playoff hole, No. 10, with four golfers making birdie to advance. He was eliminated on the second playoff hole (No. 18) when his birdie putt slid by the hole. He made his par putt and two other golfers birdied the hole.
On the third playoff hole (No. 10 again), he hit into a fairway bunker, then hit his second shot inside of 20 feet. He missed the birdie attempt and one of the four remaining golfers, Luke Guthrie, made a 6-footer to grab the final spot.
