Asleep in road

AUSTINTOWN

Police were sent to the corner of North Turner Road and Bowman Avenue around 2:30 a.m. Friday to wake a man who had fallen asleep in the middle of the southbound lane.

Nicholas Gurd, 24, of Pineridge Court, Austintown, told officers he was walking home from a bar and had stopped to take a rest. Police said Gurd was “disoriented and smelled very strongly of alcohol.” There were no streetlights, and Gurd was very hard to see, police said. He was charged with disorderly conduct and driven home by police.

Pleads innocent

WARREN

Jaycen Leapline, 34, of 158 Ohio Ave. NW, turned himself in to Warren Municipal Court on Thursday and pleaded innocent to misdemeanor killing or injuring animals. He is accused of killing his girlfriend’s daughter’s cat Wednesday morning.

Leapline was released after posting $3,500 bond. He returns to court at 10:15 a.m. June 11 before Judge Terry Ivanchak. If convicted, he could get up to six months in jail.

His girlfriend said she and Leapline argued about 5 a.m., and Leapline punched holes in the walls and doors and stated he would “take care of” the kitten that belonged to the woman’s 12-year-old daughter.

The woman said she left the house to take her daughter to school. When she returned, the cat was dead in the yard, and her daughter’s bedroom contained evidence that Leapline had beaten the cat against the walls and thrown it out the window.
