Howland levy

Voters can expect to see a 10-year, 3.9-mill Howland schools levy on the November ballot.

The emergency operating levy would generate about $2 million annually. The levy would cost the owner of a $100,000 home $136 per year.

“The district has had a $2 million drop in funding since 2011,” Superintendent John Sheets said in a news release. “District voters have approved one additional levy in 20 years, and that was 10 years ago. Everything costs more to operate a school system than 10 years ago.”

If the levy passes, the district plans to update technology and textbooks for students as well as improve security measures and explore the possibility of all-day kindergarten.
