Sessions prepare kids for transition to high school

The city schools and the Quaglia Institute for Student Aspirations are hosting sessions this month to prepare incoming seventh and eighth graders to East High School for a successful transition to high school.

Seventh and eighth graders will be housed in a separate wing of the high school building this upcoming school year.

The program, dubbed Project SAY — Student Aspirations Youngstown — run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 20 and Aug. 21 for entering seventh graders, and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 22 and Aug. 23 for incoming eighth graders at the school.

Activities focus on building students’ aspirations and relationships and introducing students to the My Aspirations Academic Plan. Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided along with a closing ice cream celebration. Transportation will be by the city schools.

Registration is required by Aug. 9 and may be made by calling East at 330-740-4005.
