Mother of bathtub murder convict dead in Ohio

MASON, Ohio (AP) — Authorities in southwest Ohio say the mother of a man convicted for his wife’s bathtub murder has been found dead in her home.

Jill Widmer was 55. A coroner’s investigator says no foul play is suspected, and that she had been having health issues. She was found Monday.

The Hamilton JournalNews reports that Widmer had talked in the past of the heavy emotional and financial toll her son’s case had taken. Ryan Widmer was convicted in 2011 in his third trial for the murder of Sarah Widmer. An initial conviction was thrown out for juror misconduct, and his second trial ended with a hung jury.

Attorneys for Widmer have continued appeals of his conviction. He is serving 15 years to life in prison.
