McDonald's employee foils attempted robbery

CAMPBELL — At 11 p.m. Monday, a 21-year-old Youngstown man attempted to rob the McDonald's on McCartney Road, but a restaurant employee grabbed the suspect's gun and placed him in a choke hold before he could take any money from the safe.

Although the suspect, Alvin Ward, broke free of the employee's grasp and fled on foot, police caught up with him shortly afterward on Wilson Avenue, about a mile from the McDonald's.

Ward admitted to the crime to police, and was charged with aggravated robbery.
