The Niles City Health Department, 34 West State St., is offering immunization clinics from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Aug. 7, 14 and 21. No appointment is necessary, and no one will be refused service because of inability to pay.

Parents or guardians must bring their child’s immunization records. Children should be feeling well the day of the clinic, with no illness, fever or rash. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Geriatric doctor joins UPMC Greenville

GREENVILLE, PA.

A family medicine physician specializing in geriatric care, Dr. Christina Wong, will begin seeing patients at Greenville Medical Center-UPMC in August.

Dr. Wong, who earned her medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine, Dominica, West Indies, and completed a family practice residency and geriatric fellowship at UPMC St. Margaret, is board-certified in family medicine.

She joins family medicine physicians Drs. Alicia Baker, James Liszewski and Lindsay Venditti at Greenville Medical Center- UPMC, 90 Shenango St. For information, call 724-588-4240.

New Psycare office

STRUTHERS

Struthers Psycare, a full- service clinic with counseling and medication management services for adults and children, has opened an office at 520 Youngstown-Poland Road.

The office primarily runs the Integrative Family and Systems Treatment (I-FAST) program, which is designed for complicated cases and difficult issues such as delinquency, school failure or refusal, anger management, Children’s Services involvement, self-injurious behavior, autism, serious emotional disturbance, major mental illness, mood disorders, acting out, oppositional behavior, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

Circle of Friends

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning Valley Office of the Autism Society of Ohio is working with Supported and Facilitated Environments to bring Circle of Friends to area families. Opportunities are offered for all functional levels ages 3-18.

Circle of Friends is dedicated to building understanding and age-appropriate friendships for students with and without developmental disabilities. This year’s summer program offers a series of opportunities for the mixed groups to play and engage at a variety of attractions around the region. Each outing will last about two hours for each group.

Upcoming outings are Aug. 10 at the Skate Zone and Aug. 24 at Newport Library. There is a $20 fee per student. Call 330-507-3893 for information.

Grant awarded

HARRISBURG, PA.

A $30,000 grant awarded to the Pennsylvania Medical Society, received from the Collaboration for REMS Education, is being used to expand the medical society’s educational efforts to educate health-care professionals on prescription drug abuse and doctor shopping.

Last fall, PAMED launched its “Pills for Ills, Not Thrills” campaign, designed to raise awareness of problems associated with pill-seeking doctor shoppers and educate its members on how to identify scammers, and what to do should they encounter one.

Specifically, the grant will build additional educational activities for physician-led health-care teams to address the public health crisis surrounding the use, abuse, diversion, and overdose association with Extended Release/Long Acting opioids as well as appropriate pain management.
