GIRARD

A Church Hill Road woman faces charges of resisting arrest after fighting Girard police officers as she was removed from a house on Crumlin Avenue on Saturday. Reports say that Gina Gutierrez went to the house to pick up her son, and a family dispute led to the police being called.

Reports allege she kicked a police officer and refused fingerprinting at the police department. She later told ambulance staff that she had been pepper-sprayed repeatedly while in custody. Police reports also say that Gutierrez told officers that she would do “whatever it takes” to be allowed to leave custody.

Gang members sought

Youngstown

The Community Initiative to Reduce Violence will have a call-in session with juveniles who are in or are affiliated with gang activity from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mahoning County School, 3321 Hudson Ave. No one will be allowed to enter after 10 a.m.

Speakers will include the Youngstown mayor’s chief of staff, DeMaine Kitchen, police Chief Rod Foley, prosecutor Dana Lantz and other community and service agency representatives.

United Way donation

Eat’n Park Hospitality Group will present a $500 check to United Way of Mercer County on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Eat’n Park in Hermitage, 2270 E. State St.

United Way of Mercer County funds the programs and services of 27 local partner agencies. In addition to impacting the community through traditional campaign dollars each year, UWMC addresses emerging community needs by collaborating with other social and civic organizations to address the root cause of problems in education, income and health, said Jim Micsky, executive director.

Culvert replacements

Fairfield

State Route 558 will be restricted for two culvert replacements in Fairfield Township, Columbiana County, starting Monday.

Two culverts will be replaced between state Routes 11 and 7.

An 11-foot-wide restriction at the first site, between Bunker Hill Road and Lower Elkton Road, will begin during daytime hours Monday. The second site, located west of state Route 517, will be restricted Aug. 12. Two-way traffic will be maintained at both sites with flaggers.

To install the new culverts, state Route 558 will be closed for 14 daystwice, one for each pipe. The first is scheduled from Aug. 19 and the second, Sept. 9. ODOT’s contractor with the $318,000 project is Sheldon Gantt Inc. of Niles. All work should be completed by this November.

ODOT worker struck

BRACEVILLE

Troopers with the Southington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating after an Ohio Department of Transportation worker directing traffic was hit by a tow truck about 9:45 a.m. Monday.

A news release said the worker, Stephen R. Vidman, 18, of McDonald was with a crew sealing cracks on state Route 534 just north of state Route 82 when a tow truck driven by James Mahmet, 47 of Lake Milton, hit him because he was distracted by something inside his truck, according to the release.

Vidman was flown to a Cleveland hospital by helicopter and was listed in serious condition at MetroHealth Medical Center, the release said. The accident is still under investigation.

2 rescued at Mosquito

Two people were rescued from a capsized boat and a third was able to swim to safety in an incident at 5:53 p.m. Monday on the north end of Mosquito Lake near a bait shop.

Mosquito Lake authorities and the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office received a call about the boat capsized about 100 yards north of the state Route 88 causeway, according to a Trumbull County 911 report. Within 30 minutes, all three in the boat were safe and had been returned to the dock.

Driver injured in rollover

The driver of a tractor trailer was injured in a rollover crash Monday at 6:15 p.m. at 1888 Brookfield Road SE in Hubbard Township near U.S. Route 62.

The truck flipped over and crashed through a telephone pole, according to a report from Trumbull County 911 Center, which did not list an address or age for driver Bill Losy nor say whether he was hospitalized. The crash led to the closing of the road for about two hours by the Ohio Department of Transportation, and there was a diesel fuel spill as well, according to the report.
