Crews fight two Cambridge Avenue fires

Firefighters late Monday evening battled two separate fires on a South Side street.

Crews were first called to 855 Cambridge Ave. about 10:05 p.m. for a garage fire at a vacant home. As that fire was being attacked, a neighbor told firefighters a vacant home at 843 Cambridge Ave. was on fire. Additional crews were directed to that blaze.

Reports said the garage was destroyed and damage is estimated at $2,000. The other home suffered $10,000 in damage, reports said.

A witness told firefighters he saw someone near the garage right before the fire started.
