Campbell teachers approve new 2-year pact

CAMPBELL — The Campbell Education Association, the union representing 93 of the district's educators, approved the tentative contract agreement produced after negotiations between the union and the school board resumed last week, by a 59-2 vote, this morning.

Colleen Joss, CEA spokeswoman, said the new two-year contract includes a "fair raise within those two years," along with other improvements, such as changes to health care coverage, that allow teachers "to move forward instead of backward."

"Everybody's pleased with the results," Joss said. "Nobody really wanted to see a strike in the end."

She added that the Campbell Board of Education meets at 6 this evening, and will likely pass the agreement as well.

"These were the most-challenging negotiations the district has seen in years," Joss said. "The CEA looks forward to the coming school year and working with the new superintendent, and hopes to develop a good working relationship with him and the board in the future."
