Tour set Aug. 10 at historic West Side neighborhood

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society’s Young Leaders Advisory Board is presenting a series of free public “History to Go” lecture programs this summer and fall.

The first featured event will be a 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 10 walking tour of the Rocky Ridge neighborhood on the city’s West Side.

Participants will meet in the parking lot of the Shrine of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted, 517 S. Belle Vista Ave.

The first half of the event will be a short walking tour along Belle Vista focused on the history of Rocky Ridge and the neighborhood’s current efforts to revitalize the area.

The second half will be a short walking tour of the James L. Wick Recreation Area, covering the history of this area of Mill Creek Park with Mill Creek MetroParks staff discussing their plans for renovations. Guests will be given time to either walk or move their cars from one site to the other.

Rocky Ridge is bordered by McCollum Road and Belle Vista, Mahoning and Schenley avenues. Event partners include Mill Creek MetroParks and Rocky Ridge Neighbors.
