A summary of recent police activity in Girard and Liberty:

GIRARD

July 21

Assault: A North Highland Avenue woman alleged her former husband pushed his way past her to enter her residence, then spit in her current boyfriend’s face.

Assault/criminal mischief: A woman alleged that while on U.S. Route 422, her boyfriend kicked and broke two of her car’s windows after she refused to offer him a ride, and that he chased her around the vehicle and punched her in the back.

July 22

Assault: A West Wilson Avenue woman told officers a man, during an argument, intentionally struck her with his car door.

Menacing: A man in the 200 block of South Davis Street said another man tried to engage him in a fight.

Theft: Someone stole a glass of soda from a self-serve beverage machine at Subway, 521 N. State St.

Criminal mischief: A car in the 400 block of East Kline Street was found with a smashed rear window. Damage came to $500.

July 23

Breaking and entering: Two men were seen running from a vehicle in the 800 block of Beechwood Drive. A bottle of cologne and a Sony PlayStation charging card were missing.

Thefts: A Beechwood Drive woman reported five cars at her home were entered, from which $15 of loose change and a vehicle registration were stolen. Police received several similar complaints from the area.

Theft: A $200 global-positioning-system unit was removed from a car in the 900 block of Beechwood Avenue.

Theft: While checking vehicles near Woodlawn Avenue, police discovered one had been ransacked. After being contacted, the owner realized a debit card and checks were missing.

Theft: A Crumlin Avenue woman reported $500 stolen from her home.

July 24

Bad check: A man deposited a $650 check at a U.S. Route 422 bank before the check was returned for insufficient funds.

Theft: A Beechwood Avenue woman and her son discovered two checks had been stolen and cashed for $100 each.

Fraud: A Trumbull Avenue woman noticed a $68 charge had been made to her stolen credit card.

July 25

Theft: A $500 push mower was taken from a shed in the 600 block of Hazel Avenue.

Arrest: Officers served a warrant to 29-year-old Adrienne C. Kinnick at her residence, 50 Dearborn Ave., Girard, then took her into custody on a probation-violation charge.

Theft: An inmate being transported to Girard Municipal Court reportedly stole an ink pen.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: An Indiana Avenue woman said another woman took the accuser’s car to her Warren residence without permission, then threatened to destroy the vehicle.

LIBERTY

July 17

Domestic violence: Rodney C. Smeltzer, 21, of 2958 Roosevelt Drive, Liberty, was charged with two counts of domestic violence and one of abduction, a third-degree felony, after his girlfriend alleged Smeltzer had choked her during an argument and pinned her son against a refrigerator when he tried to assist her. Smeltzer also refused to allow her to leave the apartment, a report said.

July 18

Theft: A man told police another man took $30 from his pocket while helping the accuser to his vehicle at a Belmont Avenue gas station.

Theft: A 44-year-old man stole five steaks from Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave., before fleeing in a dark-colored vehicle.

Harassment: A Goldie Road woman said a Youngstown woman, 25, made three harassing and threatening calls to her.

Theft: A 36-year-old Youngstown man reportedly rented but failed to return a vehicle to Hertz Rent-a-Car, 3515 Belmont Ave.

Arrest: Police in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue picked up 32-year-old Machelle D. Sydney, 253 Alameda Ave., Youngstown. She was accused of failing to appear in court to face a probation-violation charge.

Fraud: A woman during the last two years reportedly has collected and altered checks belonging to a Belmont Avenue business before placing them into an account she created, defrauding the company of about $15,000. She later would place the checks back in the business’s files, making it appear the money had been paid, a police report showed.

July 19

Theft: A man stole a 30-pack of beer from Rite Aid Pharmacy, 2704 Belmont Ave., and fled through a rear door.

Assault: An employee with Belmont Pines Hospital, 615 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, told police a patient who had tried to escape from her unit pushed the accuser through a door and shoved her against a wall. She had a bruised right shoulder and complained of mild pain.

Breaking and entering: Someone broke into a storage trailer in the 3100 block of Youngstown-Hubbard Road and removed a farm tractor, a plow and a push mower, for a loss of $2,250.

Arrest: Youngstown police handed 24-year-old Jessica L. Gonzalez to Liberty authorities. Gonzalez, of 240 Kendis Circle, Youngstown, was wanted on an outstanding township warrant.

Burglary: To a residence in the 2400 block of Fifth Avenue after the rear doors had been kicked in. Copper piping and a $2,000 air conditioner were stolen.

Theft: A Warren man, 35, was detained after reportedly intentionally failing to scan $40 worth of merchandise in a self-checkout lane at Giant Eagle.

Arrest: A traffic stop in the 4200 block of Belmont Avenue resulted in the arrest of 42-year-old Kenneth J. Scott, 446 Madison St., Sharon, Pa., on a warrant charging failure to appear in court.

July 20

Arrest: Police responded to a shop- lifting situation at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, before charging Tabitha S. Lee, 25, of 735 Early Road, Youngstown, with endangering children and obstructing official business. Lee, who also was wanted on a Boardman warrant, left several children alone in a vehicle and provided a false name, a report showed.

Theft: A man stole a pair of athletic shoes from K&P Sports Inc. in the Liberty Plaza.

July 21

Aggravated menacing: A Motor Inn Drive man alleged a Davenport, Iowa, man threatened to severely harm him during an argument pertaining to the Iowa man’s 17-year-old daughter.

Drugs: Authorities on West Montrose Avenue pulled over and took into custody 25-year-old Jeffrey A. McAnallen of Belmont Avenue, Youngstown, on charges of drug abuse, possession of dangerous drugs and tampering with evidence. Found was a bag containing 2.8 grams of suspected marijuana, as well as part of a pill, police said.

Breaking and entering: Someone entered a barn in the 1900 block of Oriel-Rogers Road and stole about $10,000 worth of tools.

Assault: A Youngstown man reported an acquaintance sprayed him with pepper spray during an argument in a parking lot in the 4000 block of Belmont Avenue.

Theft: A Vienna man noticed his wallet missing while visiting a friend in the 1100 block of Townsend Avenue.

July 22

Arrest: Police at the Mahoning County jail arrested 43-year-old Brian Mennell, 34 New York Ave., Youngstown, on a warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court on a theft count.

Identity fraud: A Logan Arms Drive woman found out her credit card had been used to make six unauthorized online charges totaling $199.

Criminal damaging: A Keefer Road woman’s car sustained extensive damage after someone used a key to do $6,000 in damage to its finish.

Identity fraud: A Beverly Hills Drive woman found unauthorized activity on her credit-card statement that totaled around $894.

July 23

Fraud: A Fifth Avenue woman told authorities her stolen credit card had been used without permission to make $374 worth of charges.

Criminal damaging: Someone in the 3900 block of Orchard Court used a key to do an estimated $1,500 in damage to a vehicle’s paint.

Theft: Someone in a pickup truck was seen on a surveillance camera taking 14 5-pound propane tanks from a BP gas station, 2703 Belmont Ave.

Theft: A former employee for a Belmont Avenue business reportedly stole binders and folders containing documents that belong to the company.

July 24

Arrest: Police took into custody John A. Jarome of 3032 South Ave., Youngstown, in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue. The 42-year-old Jarome was accused of failing to appear in court.

Misuse of a credit card: A Trumbull Court woman learned someone had gained access to her debit-card account before buying $235 worth of video games.

Criminal damaging: Someone purposely cut a vehicle’s rear passenger-side tire in the 2900 block of Oakland Drive.

Theft/forgery: A man discovered 14 personal checks had been stolen from his Colonial Drive home, then forged and cashed for $748.
