Children's Stream Camp set in Mercer on Aug. 6-9

MERCER, PA.

The Mercer County Conservation District, in cooperation with Munnell Run Farm, is hosting a Stream Camp from Aug. 6 to 9 for children age 9 to 13.

The camp will teach the importance of stream health by having participants assist in an underwater creatures study, learn how to identify various creatures, assist in a chemical assessment of the stream, discuss the importance of streams to animals and humans, learn about how to identify and cast animal tracks, and visit off-site locations at a local lake and river to see the differences between lakes, rivers and streams.

The schedule includes activities at Munnell Run Farm, 753 Greenville Road, from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 6, and campers will visit off-site locations Goddard State Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 7 and the Shenango Reservoir from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 8. The camp will host a graduation and picnic from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 9 at the farm. For the off-site trips, campers must take a lunch.Cost is $5 per day.

Registration is required by Friday so organizers can order camp shirts for each participant. To ensure your child receives a shirt, state your interest to the organizers during registration.
