POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

July 16

Domestic violence: Randy A. McBride, 44, of 2781 Highland Ave., Poland, was charged with the crime after his wife alleged having been a victim. She had a minor injury.

July 19

Theft: A Poland woman reported her purse stolen while shopping at a Center Road store.

July 22

Aggravated menacing: A Poland Center Road woman said an acquaintance had threatened her.

Identity theft: A Shallow Creek Drive woman learned her debit-card number had been used without authorization for a $524 charge.

Criminal damaging: A car in the 3000 block of Howell Road sustained $200 in damage.

BOARDMAN

July 18

Domestic violence: Police charged Stacy M. Barrella of 7573 Jaguar Drive, Boardman, with domestic violence after a South Schenley Avenue man alleged the 19-year-old Barrella had punched and kicked him during an argument.

Trespassing: A woman told police her boyfriend kicked in the door and entered her Applecrest Court apartment, argued with her and left.

Theft: A Salem woman noticed her purse missing from a shopping cart while at a South Avenue business.

Theft: A Canfield woman reported her wallet stolen from her vehicle while visiting her daughter in the 6700 block of Bristlewood Drive.

Trespassing: A Wendy Lane man accused a neighbor of continually trespassing on his property.

July 19

Breaking and entering: Police investigating a possible burglary in the 30 block of Wilda Avenue charged Terry D. Marks Jr., 24, with breaking and entering after saying they found a stolen 22-inch lawn mower behind Marks’ Sciota Avenue residence in Boardman.

Citations: Authorities responded to a disturbance at a Market Street motel, where they cited on charges of disorderly conduct while intoxicated 27-year-old Chad A. Love, 275 S. Edgehill Drive, Austintown; 28-year-old Michael M. Nagel, 215 Brenda Lane, Columbiana; and 32-year-old Tiffany B. Michalak, 35 Aylesboro Ave., Boardman. A motel manager received several complaints that the three were boisterous and had attempted to fight with other tenants, a report said.

Arrest: A traffic stop on Southern Boulevard led to the arrest of 21-year-old Breondrae M. Bunch, 172 Millet Ave., Youngstown, who was wanted on three warrants, including a probation-violation charge.

Theft: Officers booked 22-year-old Felicia A. Dennis after Dennis, of 987 Compass West Drive, Austintown, was accused of stealing 23 articles of children’s clothing from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Domestic violence: A township girl, 15, was charged with the crime after her mother’s boyfriend alleged the teen had punched his nose after becoming upset while at Akron Children’s Hospital of the Mahoning Valley, 6505 Market St.

Theft: A $250 video-game system was stolen from a vehicle in the 100 block of Shadyside Drive.

Burglary: Occurred at an apartment in the 4400 block of South Avenue via the front door. Stolen were a 19-inch flat-screen TV and $3.

Citation: Police in the 7600 block of Glenwood Avenue pulled over then cited 48-year-old Gene E. Folkwein, 5054 Neosho Road, Youngstown, on charges of operating a vehicle impaired and drug possession. Five Vicodin tablets were in a cigarette pack, a report showed.

July 20

Theft: Two pairs of sandals were stolen from Payless Shoesource, 48 Boardman-Poland Road.

Attempted theft: A man reportedly tried to take clothing from Walmart, then was seen attempting to break into a nearby car.

Burglary: To a garage in the 3900 block of South Schenley Avenue. A vehicle’s windows were found open.

Theft: A heavy-set man in his 40s took an undisclosed amount of money from a jar at a Southern Park Mall store.

Trespassing: A man reportedly was at a Speedway gas station, 649 E. Midlothian Blvd., asking customers for money despite having been given a criminal-trespassing warning to stay off the premises.

Criminal damaging: Three of a vehicle’s tires were slashed in the 100 block of Shields Road. The damage estimate was $300.

Theft: A woman reported the theft of her purse from a car in the 60 block of Mayflower Drive.

Theft: Three Youngstown women were accused of stealing 20 articles of clothing from the J.C. Penney store in Southern Park Mall. Charged with theft were Sasha F. Roman, 21, of 2550 Tyrell St.; Breanne N. Lawrence, 20, of 2964 Oregon Ave.; and Samantha L. Gonzalez, 22, of 69 Saranac Ave.

Drugs: Officers answered a dispute call on Glenwood Avenue before charging 31-year-old Jeffrey J. Gue, 4071 Glenwood, Boardman, and 50-year-old James J. Gaurrich, 415 Westfield Road, East Liverpool, with possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia. Three suspected crack-cocaine pipes with drug residue and several hypodermic needles were among the contraband found, police said.

Theft: A Youngstown man reported his wallet stolen while at a business in the 5200 block of Market Street.

Theft: A Warren, Mich., woman at a Market Street motel reported a billfold containing $100 and other items missing from her room.

Theft: A global-positioning-system unit, a digital camera and four compact discs were taken from a vehicle in the 70 block of Lemans Drive.

Theft: A woman in her 30s stole five pieces of costume jewelry and a set of false eyelashes from Hair Depot, 4026 Market St.

Arrest: A suspicious vehicle in the 300 block of Boardman-Poland Road led to the arrest of 25-year-old Michele L. Helterbran, 1595 Moorefield Ave., Austintown, on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired.

Theft: Christopher W. Taylor, 18, of 403 W. Dewey Ave., Youngstown, was charged in the theft of two air guns, a pair of scissors and two candy bars from Dollar General, 271 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Theft: Authorities at the Mahoning County jail booked Tabitha S. Lee, 25, of 528 E. Boston Ave., Youngstown, after a surveillance camera reportedly caught an employee of Dunkin Donuts, 1301 Boardman-Poland Road, surreptitiously removing from a register and pocketing $25, then improperly deleting a transaction.

July 21

Domestic violence: Devin S. Kirtley, 24, of 17856 Mill Road, Berlin Center, surrendered after his former girlfriend, of Wolosyn Circle, alleged Kirtley had grabbed and choked her during an argument related to their breakup.

Burglary: Someone pushed in a window’s air-conditioning unit before entering a residence in the 30 block of Willow Drive and removing a laptop computer, a camcorder and DVDs, among other property.

July 22

Menacing: A Wildwood Drive woman reported a man made and sent about 10 such calls and text messages, including a reference to the movie “Fatal Attraction.”

Theft: Two men stole 44 aluminum brackets from Spectrum Metal Finishing, 535 Bev Road.

Breaking and entering/criminal damaging: Copper piping was removed from a home in the 70 block of Homestead Drive someone had entered through the front door. Also, two door jambs and drywall were damaged.

Theft/damage: A Simon Road man found that nails had been intentionally placed under his car’s tire, and that a spare tire was missing.

Theft: A man stole two DVDs from Walmart and fled in a Dodge Stratus vehicle.

Arrest: A reckless driver at Southern Park Mall caught officers’ attention before they picked up 22-year-old Ernie G. Plourde, who listed Boardman addresses on Meadowbrook Avenue and Salinas Trail. Plourde was wanted on a warrant charging obstructing official business.

Theft: Police arrested Cortni D. Rankin of 103 W. Main St., East Palestine, on a charge of theft for allegedly taking makeup, candy and an iPod case from Walmart. Rankin, 22, also was wanted on a warrant from Stark County accusing her of failing to appear in court.

Drugs: A traffic stop in the 1400 block of East Midlothian Boulevard resulted in 24-year-old Brandt M. Steinbinder’s arrest on charges of possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia. Steinbinder, of 51579 state Route 14, East Palestine, had a bag of needles, a used needle and a spoon with a small wad of cotton, something common to drug use, a report said.

Theft by deception: Cindy S. Schweiss, 53, of 799 Owsley St., Masury, faced a misdemeanor theft-by-deception charge after being accused of trying to fraudulently return three items to the J.C. Penney store.

Arrest: Police on state Route 7 pulled over 56-year-old Clayton F. Poynter of 807 Louise Ave. and charged the East Liverpool man with operating a vehicle impaired.

July 23

Possible arson: Police and firefighters responded to a report of an explosion in the 700 block of Park Harbour Drive, where a woman reported seeing a large amount of smoke, numerous pieces of aluminum foil and a damaged soda bottle on her deck.
