Nearly hit by rock

BOARDMAN

Police here are looking for whoever threw a softball-sized rock through the window of a Willow Drive home just after midnight Friday.

The rock, according to reports, just missed one of the residents as it landed on his bed where he was sleeping. When police arrived, they spoke to the victim and two witnesses. One witness told police he heard a loud noise while he was downstairs watching TV. When he ran outside to see what happened, he saw five juveniles running through the neighborhoods. He added that he believes he knows who they are because of past physical altercations.

The witness who was nearly hit by the rock refused medical attention. There were no visible cuts on him. The victim said he wants to press charges if police find out who is responsible.

Indicted in death

SALEM

A Boardman man charged in the murder of his estranged girlfriend was indicted by a Columbiana County grand jury.

Mason Feisel, 34, was charged by Salem police in the death of Samantha Shasteen. Shasteen’s father found her dead in the bathroom of a home at 2107 Oak St. early June 5. Shasteen, 32, suffered from severe head trauma and died from strangulation.

Man exposes self

WARREN

A 54-year-old Summit Street NW woman reported being confronted by a man who walked up to her Thursday afternoon while she was doing yard work and exposed himself.

The woman said the black male, 6-feet-1 and thin, wearing baggy pants and a red shirt, asked the woman about 12:30 p.m. if she needed help with her yard work.

When she turned around, his genitals were exposed.

The woman’s son arrived about that time. The son got into his car and followed the man. When the son got close to the suspect, the man threatened to kill the son.

MINERAL RIDGE

Weathersfield Township residents will again have curbside collection of scrap tires this year after trustees were awarded nearly $2,400 in grant funds from the Geauga-Trumbull Waste District for a 2013 Scrap Tire Grant.

Curbside collection is from Aug. 5-9.

There is a limit of four car tires (rims must be removed) per household. Large truck tires will not be accepted.

Tires also can be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. during the collection week at the township administration building, 1451 Prospect St.

Woman charged

Hubbard

A 29-year-old School Street woman purportedly caused an accident on Myron Street early Wednesday evening after a verbally aggressive altercation with another driver. Police say she threw a water bottle at a car she was tailgating, then passed it illegally at a stop sign, causing the two cars to collide. Kristen Frech, the purported bottle thrower, will be issued a summons to appear in Girard Municipal Court on a disorderly conduct charge.
