Hamilton 15, Boardman 11

ASHTABULA

Travis Harvey and Alex Cardona hit solo homers to stake Boardman to an early 2-0 lead and both later homered again, but two-time defending state champion Hamilton was not to be denied in a loser’s bracket matchup Friday at Cederquist Park. Troy Waliszewski also homered for Boardman and made a diving catch in left field. Griffin Shantz tripled while Cardona and Michael O’Horo doubled for Boardman. Hamilton used nine home runs to power its way to a today’s matchup against New Albany. Cameron Tenhundfeld hit a grand slam for Hamilton. Boardman finished the state tournament in third place.

Mill Creek 4, Matoon (Ill.) 2

Michael Budde pitched five innings, had two hits and scored twice at the tournament in Matton, Ill. AJ Pepperney and Josh Slaton had key hits Pat Donofrio recorded the final out with Matoon having the tying run at second.

Mill Creek 8, Central Indiana 3

Joel Kreuzieser and Eric Shipsky had key hits for Mill Creek, which will begin single-elimination play today.

At Cene Park, Struthers

Creekside 4, Houston Raiders 2

Creekside’s Dan Ferguson had three hits and three RBIs. Bryce Johnson singled and scored for Houston. Seth Cox pitched a three-hitter for Creekside.

Topeka Stars 7, Jackson 1

Stephen Byhenr doubled and Jordan Haugen and Jordan Raney each hit a triple to power Topeka. Ryan Colombo took a shutout into the seventh for the win.

Maryland Monarchs 4, Toyota of Warren 2

Tim Falloni had two hits and two RBIs and Jon Lucido had two hits, scored a run and drove in another for the Monarchs. Tyler Alejars and Jon Mudrinich both singled and scored for Toyota. Steven Morgan got the win.

Sayo Grays 1, Michigan Bulls 0

The Grays had just one hit, but scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth to make a winner of Brian Rosa, who scattered four hits.

Brownlee Lookouts 16, Martin Oil 8

The Lookouts raced to a 9-0 lead before Martin Oil used a seven-run fourth inning to make a game of it. But the Lookouts regained control with a four-run fifth. Paul Pistone had a triple for the winners.

Brownlee Lookouts 4, Topeka Stars 3

Jalen Washington doubled and tripled to lead the Lookouts. Jake Czerwinski also had a double for the winners.
