YMCA: Minor injuries after truck hits bus on Pa. I-81

HAZELTON, Pa. (AP) — The chief executive officer of an eastern Pennsylvania YMCA says about 25 children suffered only minor injuries when their bus was rear-ended by a tractor trailer on Interstate 81.

Hazelton YMCA CEO Sue Farley tells The Associated Press that the children were being treated at Hazelton General Hospital. She says an adult staffer was also hurt and flown to the Lehigh Valley Hospital System as a precaution, but she’s expected to be “fine.”

The crash occurred about 10:15 a.m. today, when the truck reportedly hit the bus from behind in the southbound lanes of the highway near Exit 141.

The children on the bus were on a day trip as part of a summer program run by the Hazelton YMCA. A second bus carrying more children wasn’t involved in the crash.
