Struthers councilman resigns, replacement sought

Staff report

STRUTHERS

Councilman Robert Stouffer is resigning effective today, because he is moving out of the city.

Mahoning County Democratic Party Chairman David Betras announced the members of the central committee who reside in Struthers’ 2nd Ward will meet at 6 p.m. Aug. 14 in city council chambers to select a replacement.

Both Betras and Mayor Terry Stocker praised Stouffer, who first was elected to council in 2007, for his hard work and commitment to the people of Struthers. “Bob has provided outstanding leadership during his six years on council,” Stocker said. “His input and ideas will be missed.”

In his resignation letter dated July 24, Stouffer wrote that it had been “a great honor to serve the residents of Struthers” and “to serve with this council and administration.”

Stouffer is moving to New Middletown. When contacted Thursday, he said he would “absolutely not” seek out a similar post in the future.

“Politics is not for me,” Stouffer said.

Betras said anyone interested in replacing Stouffer and serving the remainder of his term, to the end of this year, must submit a letter of interest to the MCDP no later than Aug. 10. Letters may be sent via email to dbetras@bhlaws.com or mailed to MCDP headquarters, 4011 Hillman Way, Youngstown, OH 44512, or to 6630 Seville Drive, Youngstown, OH 44512.
