Maureen Kelty began her new position as director of religious education for children in grades kindergarten through twelfth at Holy Family Parish on July 1.
Kelty earned her Bachelor of Science in education from Youngstown State University in 1988. She began her tenure as a classroom teacher that same year at Holy Family School, her Alma mater.
In 2012, Kelty received the Gold Apple Award from the Diocese of Youngstown. The award honors outstanding individuals who teach or are administrators in Catholic schools.
Monsignor William Connell, pastor at Holy Family Parish, said Kelty has a lot to offer the parish.
“She brings 25 years of experience in teaching religion, a knowledge of Holy Family Parish and a lot of enthusiasm and joy to the job, as she did to her teaching profession,” said Connell. “She also brings good leadership qualities from her experience.”
As the new director of religious education, Kelty’s vision is to engage the youth from the entire parish in a meaningful, faith-based experiences.
“Our youth has much to offer; they are energetic, have fresh ideas and are just waiting to be asked to be an active and viable part of their Catholic faith community. Empowering the young to live as disciples of Christ and fostering their personal and spiritual growth are goals I hope to achieve. I feel it is incumbent upon me to instill the doctrine of our Catholic faith upon the next generation,” said Kelty.
In the years to come the Holy Family Parish Community can look forward to active Youth Ministry, CCD and school religious programs.
“I plan to enlist family support in activities and events in an effort to help strengthen and ground the Catholic faith in our community,” said Kelty.
