2 more die in Ohio Legionnaire's outbreak

REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio (AP) — Officials say two more people have died from an outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease at a central Ohio retirement community.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that four people have died and nearly three dozen sickened in the outbreak of the disease at Wesley Ridge Retirement Community in the Columbus suburb of Reynoldsburg.

Federal health officials have found bacteria in more than one location in the facility’s water system.

The retirement community, home to 225 residents, superheated its water system for the second time Thursday.

Legionnaires’ is caused by Legionella bacteria in water systems, is spread through infected mist or water droplets. It is not contagious and usually affects people with weakened immune systems.
