A Mahoning County grand jury Thursday indicted a man Campbell police said shot four people at a 7th Street home Saturday as well as himself before trying to burn it down.

Devin N. Spann, 24, faces four counts of felonious assault with firearm specifications and eight counts of aggravated arson. He remains in St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment.

Spann is accused of shooting Roland Avis, 62; Mary Lynette Spann, 43; and Carmen Figueroa, 24, in their upper torsos. Gerald Robinson, 29, was shot in the forearm. The women are also receiving treatment in St. Elizabeth.

Police said Spann had been hinting for several days he wanted to kill everyone inside the house, and he also set a mattress on fire.

At the time of the shooting and fire, there were three children, 3, 6 and 8 inside the home but they were not injured. They were crying over the victims when they were found, reports said.

Spann, who police said also shot himself, was arrested on a nearby street as he was walking away from the home by one of the officers who was called to the scene.
