Warren JFK graduate Jason Kokrak will tee off today in the RBI Canadian Open in his return to the PGA Tour schedule after three weeks off.
Kokrak will tee off at 1:25 p.m., along with Scott Langley and Tag Ridings, on No. 10 at Glen Abbey Golf Club.
Kokrak last played in the Greenbrier Classic, July 4-7, when he tied for 41st at 3-under par 277. The week before, Kokrak finished in a third-place tie in the AT&T National at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md. He shot –8 under 276.
This week’s tournament will be a homecoming of sorts for Kokrak. Although he grew up in Warren, He was born in North Bay, Ontario.
Kokrak has played in 19 events in his second season on the PGA Tour. He has made 11 cuts and finished in the top 25 five times and in the top 10 three times. Kokrak’s 2013 earnings are $988,794.
Donovan’s 2 goals lead US into Gold Cup final
ARLINGTON, Texas
Landon Donovan scored two goals and set up another, and the United States beat Honduras 3-1 on Wednesday night to advance to the CONCACAF Gold Cup final.
The U.S. struck first when Donovan found Eddie Johnson running through the middle of the Honduran defense. Johnson took a dribble and powered a shot past goalkeeper Donis Escober, giving the U.S. a lead 11 at minutes.
In the 27th minute, Johnson started another scoring sequence with a pass to Alejandro Bedoya. Donovan received Bedoya’s short chip off his chest in the middle of the goal box and poked a shot past Escober.
Cycling probe: Doping by pair in 1998

A French inquiry into sports doping indicates 1998 Tour de France champion Marco Pantani and runner-up Jan Ullrich used the banned blood-booster EPO.
France’s senate, after a five-month investigation focused on sports doping, released the report Wednesday. It describes what many have long suspected — the use of EPO was rife in cycling in the late 1990s, before a test for the drug had been developed.
Pantani was suspended in 1999 from the Giro after failing a random blood test, and his career was damaged by several doping investigations.
Silverdome owner wants Detroit soccer
DETROIT
The Silverdome’s owner is proposing a $1 billion complex in Detroit that would include a new soccer stadium — part of an effort to bring an expansion MLS franchise to the city.
Steve Apostolopoulos, co-founder and managing partner of Triple Properties Inc., says the complex would include residential and retail space. It would be a short walk from Ford Field and Comerica Park, where the Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers play.
Kitten’s Dumplings wins Lake George race
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.
Kitten’s Dumplings rallied from well behind the early leaders to win the $200,000 Lake George Stakes for 3-year-old fillies Wednesday the inner turf course at Saratoga Race Course.
Ridden by Joel Rosario, Kitten’s Dumplings beat Watsdachances by a half-length, running 11/16 miles in 1:42.21. The Michael Maker-trained filly paid $5.00, $2.70 and $2.10, and earned $120,000 for owners Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey.
Cyclist O’Grady admits doping in ’98 Tour
MELBOURNE, Australia
A day after retiring from professional cycling, Stuart O’Grady admitted to using a blood-booster during the scandal-plagued 1998 Tour de France.
The 39-year-old Australian rider, a six-time Olympian and a stage winner on the Tour, announced his retirement after finishing his 17th Tour de France. He admitted he had used erythropoietin (EPO) for two weeks before the 1998 race, and said he had acquired it himself and used it without the knowledge of his team.
