Canfield school board gives first reading to proposed additional levy

CANFIELD — It has been 11 years since the Canfield School District has seen additional funding come in from a levy.

The board gave first reading for a new levy at a meeting this morning and will have to meet again to approve it before the levy actually makes it on the November ballot.

A 5-9-mill additional levy was mentioned, but no final decision was made on the exact amount. The deadline to put tax levies and other issues on the fall ballot is Aug. 7.

“Our school system is the heart of our community,” said Alex Geordan, superintendent of Canfield schools. “What we offer in our schools is a top-notch education, and to continue that and to grow as a system, additional revenue is going to be needed.”
