YOUNGSTOWN

An ice-cream truck driver told police someone took $100 from him at gunpoint about 5:10 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of East Judson Avenue on the South Side.

The driver, who owns Gismo’s Ice Cream, told police he was waiting on customers when a man pulled a revolver on him and demanded money. After getting the money, the robber ran away, reports said.

ATV driver killed

ORWELL

A 24-year-old North Bloomfield man was killed and his 22-year-old passenger, of Warren, was injured in a Sunday night crash involving an all- terrain vehicle and a horse-drawn buggy just north of the Trumbull County line.

Thomas D. Molinatto Jr., who was driving the ATV, was pronounced dead at the scene, while passenger Kristen Nemerovsky was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center. Both were wearing helmets.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that Molinatto was driving on Fenton Road in Colebrook Township at 9:58 p.m. when a buggy driven by Nathan Miller, 16, of Windsor turned in front of the ATV while turning left. Molinatto and Nemerovsky were ejected. The buggy overturned.

Miller had two passengers — Daniel Miller, 16, of Windsor and Andy Ray Miller, 15, of West Farmington. No information was provided on whether they were injured.

Man: I was shot in leg

WARREN

A 49-year-old city man went to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital at 6 a.m. Saturday, saying he was shot in the leg while riding his bicycle. A police report doesn’t say where the shooting took place, though the victim claimed it happened on Youngstown Road.

Animal-cruelty case

WARREN

Larry Beckwith, 53, of Penn Avenue Northwest, was arraigned on misdemeanor animal cruelty Monday in Warren Municipal Court.

He was released after pleading innocent and posting a personal-recognizance bond, meaning he didn’t have to pay anything. The charges were filed after police were called to his house Friday. An officer called conditions for the animals abhorrent.

Police found a cat on the front porch in a pet carrier that was filled with feces and urine. No water or food appeared to be present.

A dog was chained to the rear of the house, and another was chained to the side of the house. The Animal Welfare League, which also had been called to the house a week earlier, removed all three animals.

Man reports beating

WARREN

A 31-year-old Mississippi man was injured when three unidentified men struck and stomped him at the Sunoco gas station, 805 W. Market St., at 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

After the assault, one of the suspects fired a handgun at him twice — once inside the gas station and once outside, but neither shot injured him. The man was treated at ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

Asleep at the drive-thru

CAMPBELL

Police found a 20-year-old man sleeping at 6 a.m. Sunday in the driver’s seat of a tan Buick parked at the Burger King drive-thru speaker on McCartney Road.

Officers eventually woke up the man, Patrick W. Thomas-Macella, of Lowellville, by yelling and knocking on the car, and asked him why he was sleeping. They also noticed the strong smell of alcohol.

Thomas-Macella attempted to respond to officers’ questions but was incoherent, a report stated. He also refused to give officers his name, take a field-sobriety test or get out of the car.

Police eventually had to remove Thomas-Macella from the car. He is charged with obstructing official business, resisting arrest and having physical control of a vehicle while under the influence.

Carport-collapse probe

BOARDMAN

Township police have nearly completed their investigation into the collapse of a carport last week at 110 Lemans Avenue that injured a woman and two children.

Information pertaining to the investigation will be presented to the Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office today, and the prosecutor will determine what, if any, charges will be filed against the man who drove a car into one of the structure’s support beams, causing the carport to collapse.

Sgt. John Allsopp said the children were treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown the day of the incident.

The woman, however, suffered a broken back, and Allsopp said this injury could be a deciding factor in whether charges are pressed. Names won’t be released unless charges are pressed, Allsopp said.
