Baby found dead in car's trunk at Ohio auto shop

SHELBY, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say the body of a baby was found inside a box in the trunk of a car at a repair shop in northern Ohio.

WCMH reports the Shelby Police Department found the body today after a mechanic noticed an odor coming from the vehicle.

Police say the car was dropped off for service at the shop several days ago, but the mechanic noticed the odor when he worked on the vehicle today.

Police say the mechanic realized the odor was coming from the trunk, opened it and found the box. When the mechanic went to put the box to the curb for disposal, he opened it and found the body.

The station reports police have identified the car’s owner and are talking to the vehicle’s frequent driver.
