National Night Out event scheduled

The village of New Middletown will host a National Night Out starting at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 6.

National Night Out is the nation’s largest annual crime-prevention event. The event aims to build neighborhood unity and to strengthen police- community partnerships.

Lineup for a the parade will take place at Springfield High School from 5:30 to 6:20 p.m., and the parade will begin at Springfield High School and end at St. Paul’s Church on Main Street. Subsequent to the parade, a cookout is planned at the New Middletown Village Municipal Building, and other special events also will be offered.

Community day camp planned

North Lima

Good Hope Lutheran Church, 12030 Market St., will host its annual community day camp from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 5 to 9.

The camp is free and open to youths who have completed kindergarten through seventh grade. Lunch and snacks will be provided.

Oak Hill Cemetery tour set for Aug. 3

YOUNGSTOWN

A tour of the historic Oak Hill Cemetery on the city’s South Side by local historian Steffon Wydell Jones will take place at 1 p.m. Aug. 3. Participants are to meet at the cemetery’s entrance.

The cemetery was established in 1850, and many famous Youngstown natives, including Ohio Gov. David Tod, are buried there as well as several Civil War veterans. For information, call Jones at 330-951-6328.
