Dissolved oxygen killed fish in Millcreek Park pond

YOUNGSTOWN

Early indications are that dissolved oxygen is what killed hundreds of fish in the Lily Pond at Mill Creek MetroParks.

The problem is caused by a combination of successive days of high heat and the shallow pond, park officials said. The Lily Pond is about five-feet deep.

Park maintenance employees are fishing the dead out of the pond using nets and carting them away in buckets.

Koi, carp, catfish, bluegill and bass are among the fish in the pond.
