MLK committee plans bus trip

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Martin Luther King Planning Committee is sponsoring a bus trip Aug. 24 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the march on Washington. The $50-per-person fee includes round-trip fare, snacks on bus and lunch in Washington.

The bus will depart at midnight the morning of Aug. 24 from New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman St. It will leave Washington, D.C., by 6 p.m. and be back at New Bethel by 11 p.m. Aug. 24.

Reservations can be made by calling the church at 330-747-2125 or Jaladah Aslam at 330-727-5758. All seats must be paid for by July 26. Seats will not be held without payment, which can be made at the church office between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Additional meals, beverages and snacks are the responsibility of each person. Parking will be available at the church at own risk.

Alpha and Omega marks milestone

The Alpha and Omega First Baptist Church will celebrate its 98th anniversary with a banquet at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mahoning Country Club, 710 E. Liberty St., Girard. Speaker will be the Rev. Ricky Tigner, pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Campbell. Tickets are $20 per person. Call the church for information.

Outdoor worship event planned

YOUNGSTOWN

Tabernacle Baptist Church, 707 Arlington St., will host An Outdoor Worship Affair from 3 to 6 p.m. July 26. The service will include health services, mime entertainment, games, a clothing giveaway, food and beverages. Call 330-747-9624.

Free backpacks, school supplies

The Goodness Invasion will be Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Covelli Centre, downtown. Backpacks and school supplies will be given away (children must be present). The event will include free food, entertainment and community services.

Community camp for kids

North Lima

Good Hope Lutheran Church, 12030 Market St., will host its annual community day camp Aug. 5-9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free and open to youths who have completed kindergarten through seventh grade. Youth choir summer concert

WARREN

The Warren City-Wide Youth Choir will host its third annual Summer Concert at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Warren Community Amphitheater downtown. Admission is free, but a free-will offering will be taken.

The choir has more than 80 participants representing nearly two dozen churches in the Warren area. The concert raises funds for the CURRENT Scholarship and to promote unity in the Warren community. Two-thousand dollars in scholarships will be awarded at the concert to three choir members.

The choir already has raised more than $3,000 of its fundraising goal of $5,000.
