The Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation are looking into an early morning shooting today that left a man dead. Deputies were called to a 10357 Steubenville Pike Road home here at about 5:30 a.m. on a report of a shooting and found a man inside wounded by gunfire. The man was taken to a hospital, where he died at about 7 a.m., according to a sheriff’s news release. The person inside the home at the time of the shooting was being interviewed by investigators.

A spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office said the victim’s name will be released once his family is notified.

Delays till Oct. ’14

Boardman

Continuing work on road widening and modifications on U.S. Route 224 at Interstate 680 is requiring daily lane restrictions until further notice. Drivers can expect delays, restrictions, and closures until the project’s completion in October 2014.

Lane limits on Market

Beginning Monday, Market Street between Karago Avenue and Boardman Boulevard will have occasional lane restrictions for drainage improvements on Karago and Boardman, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation. Cost of the project, to be completed by late September, is $780,000.

KSU gets $134K grant

Kent State University is to receive a $134,535 grant from the National Science Foundation. The project is titled “Geographies of Health and Medical Programs in a Conflict-Society” and is part of the NSF’s Geography and Spatial Sciences Program. The grant will fund research by two KSU graduate students and one undergraduate student through April 30, 2015.

Trumbull parks open

Canoe City MetroPark on North Leavitt Road and Swift MetroPark on Benedict-Leavittsburg Road have reopened after being closed several days because of high water in the Mahoning River. The floating dock at Canoe City remains out of service for repairs.

Wean series deadline

Aug. 1 is the registration deadline for The Raymond John Wean Foundation’s “Wholehearted Leadership Series” offered in August and October at Birch Hill Cabin in Mill Creek MetroParks. The two-part series focuses on recognizing and developing skills for bringing the whole self to work and home life. Session time will be interactive and experiential. Presenter is Rose Bator, founder and president emeritus of Common Ground-The Cindy Nord Center for Renewal and owner of RiverWays. Part One is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 8 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 9.
