Scrappers’ bats pound Cyclones

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers’ bats were booming on Thursday, pounding the Brooklyn Cyclones for 13 hits in a 6-2 victory.
The Scrappers (9-22) played flawless defense and their four pitchers allowed just one walk in their second victory in three games.
Starter Kenny Mathews worked three innings, allowing one hit and striking out three.
Winning pitcher Alexis Paredes (1-1) followed with three strong innings, permitting one run on four hits. He walked none and whiffed two.
The Scrappers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when James Roberts scored on an error.
Three innings later, Sicnarf Loopstok tripled and scored on Juan Romero’s hit.
The Scrappers added three runs in the sixth inning, with Josh McAdams, Romero and Joel Mejia getting RBIs.
In the eighth inning, Claudio Bautista hit a RBI double.
The Cyclones scored solo runs in the fifth and ninth innings.
In the fifth inning, James Roche doubled to score Julio Concepcion.
In their final at-bat, the Cyclones (13-17) made Scrappers reliever Trevor Frank sweat. Concepcion singled to open the inning and took second on a wild pitch. Anthony Chavez singled to score Concepcion, but was thrown out at second trying to stretch his hit into a double.
